Mircea Cantor

The series of three scarves, which included «rope» is in resonance with the current work of the artist, who uses the rope as a symbolic, poetic and pictural motif, reaching his amazing installation «Aleppo soap» at the FIAC 2017 (Maggazino gallery) and its retrospective «Your ruins are my flag» at the Fondazione Giuliani, Roma (until December 16, 2017).

Every foulard, numbered from 1 to 100, is printed in rare silk and fully finished by hand. It is presented in a serious box of the signature of the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity numbered and signed by Mircea Cantor.

Mircea Cantor first began his studies at the University of Art and Aesthetics of Cluj-Napoca and then attended the École des Beaux-Arts at Nantes in 1999. He immediately turned
his skills to all types of medium – video, installations, photography, design, performance, sculpture… Mircea Cantor is a self-professed artist of the world, a world without borders, and seeks to highlight the weaknesses and dysfunctional nature of a human being through the prism of our contemporary society. poetic and allegorical in nature, his entire work is characterized by this ability to treat what are harsh and complex subjects in an aesthetic manner where they are suspended between the real and chimerical. Mircea Cantor is deeply obsessed with the motif. The appearance of forms, their temporality and the strength of their retinal persistence are all part of the outcomes expected by the artist for his works. He pokes fun at our traditions, criticizes the face of the world, politics, the phenomenon of globalization, history, but remains focused on human aspirations, scrutinizing our behavior, our
weaknesses. Questioning the essence of what it means to be human is crucial. Mircea Cantor wishes to present us with a symbolic work inspired by the different fields of knowledge in order to give some meaning to human existence. The bases of his work could be summarised in several words - tradition, humility, aesthetics, independence, discipline, and values.
